Heather Fragen is a singer, actor, dancer and casting assistant who has explored the worlds of Theatre and Film from both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. Born in Los Angeles, California she grew up on the cusp of the city and ocean. Film, theater and the entertainment industry as a whole has been part of Heather’s world from the start, inspiring the roads she travels.

As a child, Heather explored the world of theater and dance beginning at just two years old after being put in baby ballet classes! From there she went into full performance kid mode, studying with the Malibu and Brentwood Academies of Dance and later transfering to the Westside School of Ballet where she trained for many years. She first stepped into the world of acting in 2009, joining summer theater programs at Theater 31 and The Adderley School, in which she began to explore the world of musical theater. In 2014 she joined the theater department at Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, CA. At Crossroads, she performed in over 14 shows through middle and high school and eventually joined their conservatory program.

While preparing to audition for universities, Heather was offered a spot in Emerson College’s Pre-College program at The Acting Studio. Her classes there reflected the structure of Emerson’s BFA program studying with many great professors such as Lindsay Beamish and Erin Schwall. Additionally she worked with film students acting in their short film, gaining on camera experience working both on location and on a stage.

In 2019, Heather began studying theater arts at Hofstra University on Long Island. From the start she worked hard to make her mark, being cast in The Spectrum Player’s mainstage show Significant Other written by Joshua Harmon (directed by Rebecca Wilson) during her first semester. During the time of the pandemic she continued her studies online while living across the country from her school. Luckily, she was able to return for her sophomore year in the fall of 2020 taking part in hybrid classes and working behind the scenes on an outdoor staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (directed by Ilona Pierce) as part of the run crew. After being on crew in the fall, she was given the opportunity to assistant stage manage the musical Working (directed by Cindy Rosenthal) the following spring.

In her first semester of sophomore year, Heather auditioned into Hofstra’s BFA program and the next semester began her work focusing on performance. In both the fall of 2021 and spring of 2022 she was honored to perform in The Student Rep Festival. Under the direction of BFA Gavin Petersen she explored the worlds of two very important stories, The Cagebirds by David Campton and The Yellow Boat by David Saar. Through these plays she learned what it meant to understand and dive into the analysis of real world issues and how they can be represented in the arts. In addition during spring of 2022 she assistant stage managed The Revolutionists (directed by Ilona Pierce). She also earned her certification in Unarmed Stage Combat. In the fall of 2022, Heather was thrilled to be cast as #11 in The Wolves (directed by Chris Dippel) alongside a fabulous ensemble of strong actors. This truly was a full circle moment for her as she used a monologue from The Wolves as one of her college audition pieces!

Outside of her acting studies, Heather has taken private vocal instruction since her freshman year at Hofstra. She began her studies with Gregory Mercer as a freshman, and from sophomore year forward, has studied under the instruction of Tammy Hensrud, fine-tuning and growing her vocal abilities. Heather is currently serving as the Treasurer for Hofstra University’s chapter of the drama honors fraternity Alpha Psi Omega. Working with her fellow executive board members has been a valuable experience for her and she has loved getting to help form what this era of their chapter looks like.
